The Tunnel Sweeper

Sinner did not have to strain his ears for long. Barely had he pulled a hunting arrow from his quiver when his companions turned towards the ever louder new sound emanating from the dark tunnel. Not quite the metallic knocking of a fireman’s spikes, it was still similar and just as unpleasant. Suddenly, Sinner was all nerves. Experience told him it had to be something as multi-legged and at least as large and ugly—something alien, defying every commonsense perception of what a normal earthly creature should look like. They were up for another unpleasant surprise. The Chaossian cavalry, summoned by the meek pinging of the dying soccer balls, had arrived.
